Gene Kelly Awards: 2018 Scholarships

The Gene Kelly Awards Scholarships are awarded each year to participating high school students who represent the vision and integrity of the Gene Kelly Awards as demonstrated through their artistic and academic excellence. Scholarship amounts vary.

The CLO Ambassadors' Scholarship

The CLO Ambassadors, a volunteer support group of the Pittsburgh CLO, recognize that the theater requires the dedication of all participants both on stage and behind the scenes.  Therefore, they are pleased to award a scholarship to an individual participating in any capacity of their schools 2018 Gene Kelly Awards musical.

Eligibility

  • A current participating Gene Kelly Awards school may nominate all eligible graduating seniors participating in any aspect of its 2018 musical.
  • Nominees must be seniors in good standing and exemplify the collaborative aspect of theater, working well with both other students and adult advisors.
  • Student must provide proof of acceptance into a 4 year college or university by April 7, 2018; declared major does not have to be in the performing or technical arts.

Deadline: Application must be submitted by the student by April 13, 2018.

Gene Kelly Awards Cash Scholarships

The Annual Gene Kelly Awards Cash Scholarships are awarded each year to high school seniors participating in the Gene Kelly Awards, who are committed to pursuing a degree with an institution of higher education focused on the arts.

Eligibility

  • A current participating Gene Kelly Awards school may nominate all eligible graduating seniors participating in any fo the following aspects of its 2018 musical: acting, singing, dancing, stage management, technical theater/design.
  • Nominees must be seniors in good standing with both their high school and the Gene Kelly Awards.
  • The award is based on both academic and artistic merit: applicants must attend an audition at the Pittsburgh CLO Academy before an independent panel of judges.
  • Student must provide acceptance into a certified Higher Education Program for the perfroming or technical arts by April 13, 2018.

Application & Deadline:

  • Students must submit the completed Student Application Form by April 13, 2018.
  • Their school must submit the completed School Nomination Form (completed by a principal, teacher, or school counselor) April 13, 2018.
  • Auditions will be held on Friday, May 4 at the CLO Academy.

Pittsburgh CLO Guild Scholarship

Presented in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO Guild and the Contance T. Rockwell Scholarship Program, the Pittsburgh CLO Guild Scholarship is awarded annually to deserving local high school seniors in keeping with Mrs. Rockwell's desire to recognize, encourage, and support students who want to pursue a career in the performing arts.

Eligibility

  • Scholarships are limited to high school seniors who would like to pursue a degree in theater arts.
  • Students must have applied to a an accredited college, university, or consrevatory that offers a four-year program with a requisite audition prio to submitting.
  • If a student receives a full schoalrship from any other source, he or she will not be eligible.  However, those receiving a partial scholarship or scholarships are eligible.
  • Applicants are evaluated with regard to financial need, experience and scholarhsip merit, as well as school and community involvement.

Deadline: Application must be submitted by the student by April 20, 2018

La Roche College Dance Scholarship

La Roche College, in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO, is pleased to provide a $16,000 scholarship to an eligible student pursing a full-time dance major during the 2018-2019 school year.

Eligibility

  • All graduating seniors who participate in the Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards as a member of a participating high school are eligible to apply.
  • Recipients must enroll as a full-time dance major at La Roche College.
  • All students must audition. Auditions are held on Mondays from 4-5:30pm. Audition spots must be scheduled two weeks prior to selected date.
  • The scholarship may not be used in conjunction with, or in addition to other La Roche College Scholarships.

Point Park University Scholarships

Point Park University, in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO, offers two scholarships to the Conservatory of Performing Arts (in Performance and Technical Theater), and one scholarship to the Sports, Arts, and Entertainment Management Program.

Eligibility

  • All graduating seniors who participate in the Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards as a member of a participating high school are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates for these scholarships should have applied and been academically accepted to Point Park University.
  • Each Candidate is expected to also have completed an audition and/or interview and received artisitic acceptance into Point Park University Conservatory of the Performing Arts Theater or Dance Department.
  • Recipients must enroll as a full-time student for the Fall term of 2018.
  • The Conservatory Scholarships will be awarded in Performance, Technical Theater, and/or Stage Management.  Each award will be a four-year $5000 scholarship.

Interested students must submit the completed Point Park University Scholarship Application to
Troy Centofanto, Director of Artistic Recruitment, by April 1, 2018. 

Seton Hill University Scholarships

Seton Hill University is pleased to provide a $2,000 talent scholarship for the 2018-2019 school year.

Eligibility

  • All graduating seniors who participate in the Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards as a member of a participating high school are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates for these scholarships should have applied and been academically accepted to Seton Hill University.
  • Each Candidate is expected to also have completed an audition and/or interview and received artisitic acceptance into Seton Hill's Musical Theater or Dance program.
  • This talent award is offered in addition to other Rider University scholarships and grants with the total amount of Rider scholarships and grants not exceeding $24,000 per year.

CLO Academy Scholarships

Pittsburgh CLO Academy Scholarships are awarded to current freshman, sophomore, and junior students who are interested in attending the Pittsburgh CLO Academy in the 2018/2019 school year to enhance, develop, and train with the region’s premier performing arts school. 

  • Eligibility: Current high school freshman, sophomores, and juniors.
  • Requirements: Application and Audition.
  • Award: Scholarship amounts vary.
  • Deadline: Those interested in applying will be asked to attend CLO Academy Scholarship Auditions in August 2018. Applications become available in July. Please visit the CLO Academy Scholarships page for more information.
