Gene Kelly Awards Scholarships

The Gene Kelly Awards Scholarships are awarded each year to participating high school students who represent the vision and integrity of the Gene Kelly Awards as demonstrated through their artistic and academic excellence. Scholarship amounts vary.

The CLO Ambassadors' Scholarship


The CLO Ambassadors, a volunteer support group of the Pittsburgh CLO, recognize that the theater requires the dedication of all participants both on stage and behind the scenes.  Therefore, they are pleased to award a scholarship to an individual participating in any capacity of their schools 2017 Gene Kelly Awards musical.

  • Eligibility: GKA schools may nominate any graduating senior in good standing participating in their musical that exemplifies the collaborative aspect of theater, working well with both students and others.
  • Requirements: Application, Proof of Acceptance into a 4-year college or university by April 7th.
  • Award: Cash Scholarship and one complimentary ticket to attend the Gene Kelly Awards.
  • Deadline: April 7th, 2017

Gene Kelly Awards Cash Scholarships

The Annual Gene Kelly Awards Cash Scholarships are awarded each year to high school seniors participating in the Gene Kelly Awards, who are committed to pursuing a degree with an institution of higher education focused on the arts.

  • Eligibility: Current participating GKA school may nominate all eligible graduating seniors who are participating in its 2017 musical in the following areas: acting, singing, dance, stage management, or technical theater/design. As this award is based on both artistic and academic merit, interested students must audition as well as submit an application to be eligible.
  • Requirements: School Nomination Form, Student Application, Audition or Portfolio Submission
  • Award: Cash Scholarship and one complimentary ticket to attend the Gene Kelly Awards.
  • Deadline: Applications must be received by April 7, 2017.
  • Audition: May 5, 2017 at 3:30pm at the Pittsburgh CLO Academy

Pittsburgh CLO Guild Scholarship

Presented in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO Guild and the Contance T. Rockwell Scholarship Program, the Pittsburgh CLO Guild Scholarship is awarded annually to deserving local high school seniors in keeping with Mrs. Rockwell's desire to recognize, encourage, and support students who want to pursue a career in the performing arts.

  • Eligibility: High School Seniors who are pursuing a degree at a 4-year accredited college, university, or conservatory program in theater or performing arts (dance, drama, music, voice, costume design, set design, lighting or sound).
  • Requirements: Student Application. Applicants will be evaluated with regard to financial need, experience, and scholastic merit, as well as school and community involvement. Semi-Finalists will then be invited to audition for the Guild Scholarship committee at a date to be determined.
  • Award: $4000 to be applied to freshman year tuition.
  • Deadline: April 14, 2017

La Roche College Dance Scholarship

 pursing a full-time dance major at La Roche College.

  • Eligibility: all students who participate in the Gene Kelly Awards as a member of a participating high school are eligible to apply.
  • Requirements: Student Application, Audition at La Roche College.
  • Award: $16,000
  • Deadline: April 7, 2017

Point Park University Scholarships

Point Park University, in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO, offers two scholarships to the Conservatory of Performing Arts (in Performance and Technical Theater), and one scholarship to the Sports, Arts, and Entertainment Management Program.

  • Eligibility: Candidates must be graduating seniors and current participants of the 2017 Gene Kelly Awards.  Candidates must have applied and have been academically accepted to Point Park University. Additionally, Performance and Technical Theater applicants must have been accepted artistically in the Conservatory of the Performing Arts at the time of submission.
  • Requirements: Student Application
  • Award: $5000/year, renewable for four years.
  • Deadline: April 7, 2017

Westminster College of the Arts Talent Award

Westminster College of the Arts at Rider University, in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO, offers one schoalrship each year to Gene Kelly Awards participants pursuing a BFA in Musical Theater or a BA in Theater at Rider University in Fall 2017.

  • Eligibility: Applicants must be current participants in the 2017 Gene Kelly Awards, and must themselves be nominated or have been nominated for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, or Best Supporting Actress. Student must be accepted for Admission at the Westminster College of the Arts at the time of submission.
  • Requirements: Student Application
  • Award: $2000/year, renewable for four years
  • Deadline: April 7, 2017
