Pittsburgh CLO Presents: GOOGLE DOC MUSICAL
Bring our first-ever community writing project to your home!
Google Doc Musical, Pittsburgh CLO’s first-ever community writing project, was launched in April 2020. We opened a shared Google Document and invited anyone who was interested to request edit access -- and to become one of the bookwriters, lyricists, or composers of a brand-new, jointly-written musical.
The details that launched the story -- title, character names, setting, and epigraph -- were voted on in Facebook polls. The bookwriter-lyricist collaborators used the framework generated by the polls to write scenes and lyrics in a shared Google Doc. Once the libretto was complete, the composer collaborators picked up the baton and wrote the music to accompany the song lyrics. In roughly ten weeks, a group of 17 people wrote and scored a completely original one-act musical, JAGOFF!
We are thrilled to share the show with our audiences in a way that continues its open-source origins. The musical’s materials are now publicly accessible, and we invite you to use them to create a world premiere in your own home!
Where can I find the show materials?
All of the materials are saved in Google Drive. Follow the links below to access the script and music; you do not need a Google account to view. In the Score drive, you will find multiple versions of each song: composer demos, accompaniment tracks, rehearsal tracks with each vocal line, and sheet music/lead sheets with the music notated. Use what’s most useful to you!
What does an at-home world premiere mean?
Whatever you’d like it to mean! Recruit friends or family to stage a full production. Read a single scene aloud. Lip-synch to a song demo -- or sing your own rendition. Dub a stuffed-animal cast.
