Dear Friends of the Cabaret,
We are thrilled to have our
musical, FIRST DATE, performed
in a brand new production at
Pittsburgh CLO. Paraphrasing a
famous Jerome Robbins quote: Alan Zachary, Michael Weiner & Austin Winsberg
Musicals are never finished—
they just open. When FIRST DATE premiered on Broadway, it didn’t stop us
from talking about ways to make it even funnier, more emotional and relatable
for audiences. And following numerous productions in Tokyo, Mexico City and
all over the United States, we’ve taken what we’ve learned and created a new
version which the audience at Pittsburgh CLO will be the first to experience.
Also a first is the “immersive” nature of this production — with the action
taking place all around the audience, allowing everyone to feel like they’re in
the restaurant while the date is taking place. Very special thanks to Pittsburgh
CLO for giving us the opportunity to further develop our musical!
We wrote this show based on our own experiences in the modern dating scene.
We wanted to create something that captured all the joy, pain, honesty, comedy
and heartbreak of the dreaded first date. We believe the feelings that Aaron and
Casey are experiencing during the date are universal. All of us are looking for
love and acceptance and constantly searching for “The One.”
We wish everyone involved in the production great success, and we hope that
everyone who sees the show has as much fun watching FIRST DATE as we did
writing it.
