A STAR-CROSSED LOVE STORY FOR THE AGES!
Two strangers peruse a museum exhibit and are suddenly transported to Ancient Egypt where they meet as Aida, an enslaved Nubian princess, and Radames, an Egyptian soldier betrothed to the Pharaoh’s daughter. Radames and Aida’s forbidden love becomes a shining example of true devotion that ultimately transcends the cultural differences between their warring nations, heralding a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity. As their epic story draws to a close, our pair of strangers resume their visit to the museum where they find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other. The unforgettable Grammy Award-winning score by Elton John and Tim Rice features soaring ballads including Billboard hit “Written in the Stars.”

MONTEZE FREELAND (Amonasro) is proud to make his Pittsburgh CLO debut! Monteze has worked with the Arena Players, The Pittsburgh Playhouse, Kuntu Rep (Radio Golf), Pittsburgh Playwrights (The Piano Lesson), City Theatre, Quantum Theatre (The Electric Baby) and many more in the Pittsburgh region. He is also the Artistic Director of The LAB Project. Monteze is a proud new member of AEA. He couldn’t do this without the support of Zina White and all of Baltimore. 

JEFFREY HOWELL (Pharaoh)  is happy to be back for another season. Most recently seen at the REP in Choir Boy and Souvenir. LAMONT WALKER II (Mereb) is so excited to be working at Pittsburgh CLO this season. Originally from Virginia Beach, Va, he’s currently a senior at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA pursuing a BFA in Musical Theatre. Other Credits include:Bill Hanney’s Theatre by the Sea’s West Side Story and the Buddy Holly Story. A Lesson Before Dying (Jefferson) with Primestage, Choir Boy (AJ) with The Pittsburgh REP, Pittsburgh Playwrights, and others. CAMERON AMANDUS  (Ensemble) just graduated from the University of Michigan Musical Theatre program. While at school, Cameron enjoyed roles in Guys & Dolls, The Music Man, Caroline or Change and Romeo & Juliet. Outside of school, he worked at Thunder Bay Theatre, Summer Repertory Theatre, and looks forward to adding Pittsburgh CLO to his resume. GERALD CAESAR (Ensemble) is a recent graduate of Elon University, where he obtained his BFA in Music Theatre. Previous regional credits include: Hairspray (MUNY), Les Misérables, How to Succeed, West Side Story (Connecticut Rep.), Romeo and Juliet (Virginia Stage Company). After Pittsburgh CLO, Gerald will be joining the original Broadway cast of A Bronx Tale, directed by Jerry Zaks and Robert DeNiro. MYHA'LA HERROLD (NehebkaEnsemble) a musical theater major at CMU making her Pittsburgh CLO debut. Previous: The Mother…with the Hat, Jekyll & Hyde, AIDA, Hairspray, Once on This Island, Into the Woods, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and The Drowsy Chaperone. BARRY IVAN (Director/Choreographer) Highlighted Pittsburgh CLO credits: Company, Sunset Boulevard, A Little Night Music, Miss Saigon, The Full Monty, Les Misérables, Footloose and West Side Story. Mr. Ivan is an IRNE nominated Director for Nine and Les Misérables; his productions of The Full Monty and Hairspray received Best Musical IRNE awards, and as Producer, his production of SHOWBOAT received the Elliot Norton award for Best Musical. Other National and International directing credits range from Yale to the German State Opera. New works include Director/Choreographer of the US Premiere of Dracula: A Chamber Musical, and director of POWER PLAYS at the Dramatist Guild. Mr. Ivan is currently under contract producing and developing Web TV programming, and is ecstatic to be reunited with the incredibly talented Pittsburgh CLO staff, crew and cast. 

TOM HELM (Musical Director) happily returns for his 21st Pittsburgh CLO season, having conducted more than 60 productions. His other adventures include conducting the Broadway productions of the Brigadoon revival, CATS, Me and My Girl, Les Misérables and Souvenir. Tom was musical director of the first national tour of CATS, Radio City’s 5-6-7-8 Dance!, and television productions of Mornings at Seven and Crazy For You. Tom supervised touring productions of Me and My Girl, Dora the Explorer, Diego Live, Rugrats and Madagascar. He has also been music director of some 50 Paper Mill Playhouse productions, among other regional and national theaters.

NEIL PATEL (Scenic Designer) Recent New York credits include: The Lion, Pretty Filthy,  Mr. Burns a post-electric play, Stage Kiss, Indian Ink, Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1,2 and 3). Fun Facts

  • AIDA is well known as an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi. It opened in 1871 to great critical and commercial acclaim and continues to be performed as an opera around the world today.
     
  • AIDA was initially conceived as an animated film by Disney executives; however, Sir Elton John suggested it be turned directly into a stage production instead.
     
  • AIDA premiered on Broadway at the Palace Theatre on March 23, 2000 and ran for nearly 2,000 performances.
     
  • Heather Headley originated the title role and won both the Tony Award® and Drama Desk for her performance.
     
  • AIDA has been performed all over the world including Germany, Australia, Hungary, Brazil, China and New Zealand, and translated into fifteen languages. The show has yet to be performed professionally in the UK despite it being the home country of both the lyricist and composer, Sir Elton John and Sir Tim Rice.

Originally from Virginia Beach, Va, he’s currently a senior at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA pursuing a BFA in Musical Theatre. CAMERON AMANDUS  (Ensemble) just graduated from the University of Michigan Musical Theatre program. While at school, Cameron enjoyed roles in Guys & Dolls, The Music Man, Caroline or Change and Romeo & Juliet. Outside of school, he worked at Thunder Bay Theatre, Summer Repertory Theatre, and looks forward to adding Pittsburgh CLO to his resume. GERALD CAESAR (Ensemble) is a recent graduate of Elon University, where he obtained his BFA in Music Theatre. Previous regional credits include: Hairspray (MUNY), Les Misérables, How to Succeed, West Side Story (Connecticut Rep.), Romeo and Juliet (Virginia Stage Company). After Pittsburgh CLO, Gerald will be joining the original Broadway cast of A Bronx Tale, directed by Jerry Zaks and Robert DeNiro. MYHA'LA HERROLD (NehebkaEnsemble) a musical theater major at CMU making her Pittsburgh CLO debut. BARRY IVAN (Director/Choreographer) Highlighted Pittsburgh CLO credits: Company, Sunset Boulevard, A Little Night Music, Miss Saigon, The Full Monty, Les Misérables, Footloose and West Side Story. Mr. Ivan is an IRNE nominated Director for Nine and Les Misérables; his productions of The Full Monty and Hairspray received Best Musical IRNE awards, and as Producer, his production of SHOWBOAT received the Elliot Norton award for Best Musical. Other National and International directing credits range from Yale to the German State Opera. New works include Director/Choreographer of the US Premiere of Dracula: A Chamber Musical, and director of POWER PLAYS at the Dramatist Guild. Mr. Ivan is currently under contract producing and developing Web TV programming, and is ecstatic to be reunited with the incredibly talented Pittsburgh CLO staff, crew and cast. 

TOM HELM (Musical Director) happily returns for his 21st Pittsburgh CLO season, having conducted more than 60 productions. His other adventures include conducting the Broadway productions of the Brigadoon revival, CATS, Me and My Girl, Les Misérables and Souvenir. Tom was musical director of the first national tour of CATS, Radio City’s 5-6-7-8 Dance!, and television productions of Mornings at Seven and Crazy For You. Tom supervised touring productions of Me and My Girl, Dora the Explorer, Diego Live, Rugrats and Madagascar. He has also been music director of some 50 Paper Mill Playhouse productions, among other regional and national theaters.

NEIL PATEL (Scenic Designer) Recent New York credits include: The Lion, Pretty Filthy,  Mr. Burns a post-electric play, Stage Kiss, Indian Ink, Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1,2 and 3). Other work includes production design for the HBO Peabody Award winning series In Treatment, Neil LaBute’s  DirecTV series “Billy and Billie” Denis Leary’s FX series “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll” and the feature films “Some Velvet Morning” (TriBeCa Films),  “Loitering with Intent” (Parts and Labor/The Orchard), “Little Boxes” (2016 TriBeCa Film Festival).

  • AIDA is well known as an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi. It opened in 1871 to great critical and commercial acclaim and continues to be performed as an opera around the world today.
     
  • AIDA was initially conceived as an animated film by Disney executives; however, Sir Elton John suggested it be turned directly into a stage production instead.
     
  • AIDA premiered on Broadway at the Palace Theatre on March 23, 2000 and ran for nearly 2,000 performances.
     
  • Heather Headley originated the title role and won both the Tony Award® and Drama Desk for her performance.
     
  • AIDA has been performed all over the world including Germany, Australia, Hungary, Brazil, China and New Zealand, and translated into fifteen languages. The show has yet to be performed professionally in the UK despite it being the home country of both the lyricist and composer, Sir Elton John and Sir Tim Rice.
