Summer Internship Positions
The CLO Summer Internship Program offers the unique opportunity for interns to get real “hands-on” experience by working with CLO production and administrative staff members.

Cabaret Theater
Works closely with PR/Marketing and Group Sales Managers to market and promote the current and upcoming shows at the CLO Cabaret through a variety of outreach programs including: street-teaming; assisting with media interviews; organizing and executing of various special events; and coordinating social media efforts. Duties may include assisting the General Manager, Cast and Creative Team during the rehearsal period of the upcoming show as well as the production team prior to the show’s opening. Some nights and weekends required.
Choreography
Assists multiple Choreographers with notes, attends all rehearsals, techs and opening nights with Choreographer.
Company Management
Assists with housing and transportation of cast members, performs administrative tasks and works with guest artists and production staff as required. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
Costume Coordination
Works closely with Costume Coordinator and Wardrobe Mistress. Assists with fittings, obtaining costume pieces, shoe painting & repairs. Helps with costume inventory & labeling. Takes notes during tech and opening nights.
Development
The Development intern will play a pivotal role in the Development office. He/She will manage the ticket outreach programs, Kelly Circle and “A” in Arts, including coordinating mailings to schools and organizations, extending ticket offers and arranging requests with the Ticketing Office. He/She will also be responsible for working with the Development Coordinator to get Donor Benefits mailings out on a weekly basis. He/She will also assist with Development projects and events; the Development intern will coordinate catering and take RSVPs for annual Donor Invited Dress Rehearsal, as well as provide a creative visual component for the event. Intern will also provide assistance for donor luncheons and the Supper with the Stars as needed. In addition, the Development intern will provide administrative support to the Development Office as needed. He/She will also be responsible for updating the Intern Handbook as often as necessary and will provide a completely updated Handbook by the end of his/her internship. This administrative intern position requires 40 hours per week, plus occasional weekend hours.
Education & Outreach
Assist the CLO Academy staff with its Summer Camp program. Duties include: stage manager for all summer camp productions, paints/builds scenery, collects props, assists Director, Music Director and Choreographer, and acts as the liaison between campers and parents. Superior multi-tasking skills recommended.
Graphic/Web Design
Applies daily updates to the Pittsburgh CLO website including cast information, production photos, video clips and more using the CLO’s CMS system. Assists the graphic designer with e-blasts, signage, program layouts, advertisements, t-shirt designs and other promotional materials. Organizes and updates bios and headshots for the summer season cast members. Must be skilled in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. Knowledge in HTML is a plus but not required. This is a fast-paced environment which will allow you to use your creativity and gain experience by working on various projects.
Hair Design
Assists Hair Designer with shopping, fittings, setting & steaming wigs. Labels blocks & wigs and tracks wigs during performances. Prior experience working with hair and wigs helpful.
Lighting Design
Assists Lighting Designers with pre-show drafting, light plots and other lighting duities.
Music
Assists Musical Director and Arranger. Transcribes, transposes and copies music.
Production Management
Assists Production Manager, works with stage crew and all technical departments.
Property Coordination
Assists Props Coordinator in obtaining and designing props. Must have a valid drivers license.
Public Relations
Duties include writing press releases and show-specific stories; coordinating social media outreach; organizing and executing media interviews; developing ideas for and attending promotional events; displays, themes and decorations for cast parties and other events; creating opening night gifts and welcome baskets for the cast and creative team of each show; collating and distributing show preview/review stories, as well as a variety of administrative tasks. Some nights and weekends required.
Sound Design
Assist with the sound designs for all of the productions. This includes system design, show and system tracking and documentation, sound effects design, and system measurement. In addition, attends rehearsals, techs and performances. Must be computer literate; and have some knowledge of theater and sound system.
Special Events/Admin
Assists with Pittsburgh CLO promotional events and special event administration for the National High School Musical Theater Awards, as well as general office and administrative duties.
Stage Direction
Assists multiple Directors with notes, attends all rehearsals, techs and opening nights with Director.
Stage Management
Assists Stage managers with rehearsals, schedules, works backstage during technical/dress rehearsals and performances.
Video Production
Shoots, edits and produces video spots of performances, rehearsals, cast parties, community events and education programs for use on the website, in presentations and for local TV stations. Also shoots CLO Academy Camp performances for DVD purposes. Self-directed position - advanced proficiency in Final Cut video editing required. Must submit a demo reel.
Internship Application Schedule
Applications are accepted until March 1 of each year and interviews are scheduled each March.
