Hairspray
As plus-sized teenager Tracy Turnblad lies in bed, she dreams about her desire to be famous in 1960s Baltimore. After school, Tracy rushes home to catch the local teenage dance show, “The Corny Collins Show.” Tracy auditions for the show and bumps into teenage heartthrob Link Larkin. Velma Von Tussle, the producer of “The Corny Collins Show,” rejects Tracy from the audition because of her size. Undaunted, Tracy uses her dance skills at the Sophomore Hop the following day to introduce herself to Corny Collins. When Corny sees how well Tracy can dance, he gives her a place on the show. Velma is distraught and becomes determined to ruin Tracy, who grows more and more troubled by the fact that “The Corny Collins Show” is only open to African-Americans once a month. After a protest march lands them in jail, she and her friends devise a plan to help integrate the show – on the day of the “Miss Teenage Hairspray” competition. Can Tracy dethrone the program’s reigning princess, unify the show’s dance floor and find true love without denting her ’do?
