Gene
Kelly Scholarships
Pittsburgh CLO awards monetary scholarships
annually to high school seniors who participate in the
Gene Kelly Awards and were continuing their education
at a school for the performing or technical arts. The
scholarships were based on auditions before a panel of
judges.
The scholarships were made possible through
the generous donations of Virginia S. Nicklas, Mary
Alice Tripp, Teresa and Bob Williams; and Sandra and
Seymour Baskin.
This year, for the first time, the CLO Ambassadors awarded $4500 in scholarships to three college-bound students, who will be pursuing a major outside of the arts. The 2008 Ambassadors' Scholarship winners were
Matthew Critchfield of Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), Austin Gohn of Northgate and Jeffery Markanich of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH).
In addition, Dr. Paul Hennigan, President of Point Park University, presented
Sarah Chbrzynski from Woodland Hills with a $20,000 four year scholarship to attend Point Park University's Conservatory of Performing Arts as a Musical Theater major.
In
addition, beginning in 2007, the University of Pittsburgh,
Point Park University and Westminster Choir College each awarded a scholarship to a student who had applied
to their institution and who participateed in the Gene
Kelly Awards.
