Pittsburgh CLO's 18th Annual Gene Kelly Awards were held at the Benedum Center on May 24, 2008.

The Gene Kelly Awards were launched in 1991 as a means to recognize and encourage student achievement and to focus the attention of the community and school districts on the importance of musical theater and arts education.

Patterned after Broadway's Tony Awards, this event celebrates the power of the Arts to significantly improve all areas of education!

High school theater programs are the real winners as show business veterans and community celebrities help spread the word about the achievements of high school students and their school's musical theater programs.

The Gene Kelly Awards were co-presented by the University of Pittsburgh with additional support provided by National City Bank of Pennsylvania, United States Steel Corp and the CLO Ambassadors. Deloitte is the official auditor for the Gene Kelly Awards.

Just Announced - Gene Kelly Award’s Best Actor and Best Actress Award Winners to Play Broadway in 2009! National High School Musical Theater Awards™ To Debut at Broadway’s Palace Theatre in June Pittsburgh CLO and Nederlander Presentations Inc. will hold the first annual National High School Musical Theater Awards on Monday, June 1, 2009, at the legendary Palace Theatre on Broadway. Based on Pittsburgh CLO’s Gene Kelly Awards, this exciting entertainment event will feature the presentation of a “Best Actress” and “Best Actor” Award to two young performers from a group of talented local winners of 30 regional competitions. The award will be named “The Jimmy,” in honor of the visionary Broadway theater owner and producer, James M. Nederlander.
